UPPER COLO RESERVE

Public BBQ

This peaceful camping reserve sits along the crystal clear Colo River, just 1.5 hours from Bondi. The 12km access road from Putty Road bridge includes some gravel sections but leads to a huge camping area with both open spaces and secluded spots. Sandy shores and shallow pools make the river perfect for swimming, fishing, and kayaking. Facilities include BBQs, clean toilets, and cold showers, though some visitors note the toilets could use better maintenance. A big water tank is available, but bringing your own drinking water is recommended. The grassy campsites offer plenty of room between neighbours, with several beach areas dotted along the river. Dog friendly and requiring bookings, the reserve features crystal clear skies for stargazing and no mobile service. Multiple camping spots mean it rarely fills up, making it a popular family destination close to the city.
